This writing is intended for anyone who may have an interest in the services we provide. It could be that the survival training experience seems intriguing or maybe it is the desire to launch out into the wilderness and create some absolutely unique memories. Personally, I never would have guessed how much I enjoyed both topics, had my career in Special Forces not - ever so forcefully - nudged me into the deep end of both. Whatever your reasons may be, there is no better time than now to embrace your desire for adventure.
For the purposes of this conversation, let's say that you've successfully leaped over the laundry list of reasons why one might deny themselves the opportunity to master the wilderness. You are ready to go! So the question now becomes, what do I do next? We are here to provide some viable options for you: By, With, and Through the Sojourner platform. We are going to cover a few topic areas to help guide you through the first steps.
Gear: The gear topic made it to the top of the list for one reason. You might be super excited and ready to jump in the deep end but there's an issue; you don't own any outdoors equipment or what you do have has seen better days. That's ok! Sojourner has expert guides that stand ready to assist you with gear selection. This can be done through one-on-one consultation if you need assistance or by referencing recommended packing lists. Additionally, you can rent equipment from Sojourner for your convenience.
"What type of adventure should I go with?"
Bushcraft & Survival Training: Sojourner provides a platform where you can take a step away from society and rediscover yourself through classroom instruction and realistic wilderness skills field training. Training levels range from novice to advanced and everything in-between. Training Scenarios are comprised of multi-day, practical application of the SSO individual training skills and beyond. This is where your skills are put to the test in a controlled environment. While there is inherent danger in any survival situation, participants will be closely monitored and assisted when necessary. Skilled advisors are made available to assist throughout the journey.
Guided Excursions & Expeditions: Consists of guided adventures ranging from local (TN) or regional excursions to nationwide expeditions. Less intense than the survival training, the recreational excursions are guided outdoors adventures and are enjoyable for people of all ages and skill levels. This portion of the platform is still in development. The most likely near term location will be back-country camping trips to The Land Between the Lakes located just north of Dover, TN. The first nationwide expedition will likely be the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) located in northern Minnesota.
